Hydraulic clutch vs cable. It relies on reservoir cylinders to control pressure in relation to how the clutch pedal is depressed. A hydraulic clutch uses hydraulic fluid instead of a cable to move the clutch disc. The hydraulic clutch system works like how the brakes work on your vehicle. The hydraulic clutch is an alternate system to the mechanical clutch cable. With a hydraulic clutch fluid is used to convey force just like in hydraulic brakes except instead of a caliper at the other end of the hose theres a slave cylinder that acts on the clutchs. Apart from simplicity and possibly reliability the hydraulic clutch is simply way better for its light feel one finger actuation.
Most cars made from the 90s onward have hydraulic clutches. Hydraulic for me has a very soft feel and i get the feeling that it just works when i press it rather then feeling it work with the clutch. One can go for the clutch as per the requirement. It will present a little cleaner set up but it is definitely a bit more work. I have a 701 with a hydraulic clutch and a nuda with a cable clutch. For the cable transmission you feel more of a direct link with the cable in the transmission and can also adjust it to a certain degree for feel.
This is because the mechanical clutch is made up of cable wire which is easy to maintain and set up. Whereas the hydraulic clutches comprise bore pipes master cylinder small cylinders and fluid. The cable clutch costs low than that of hydraulics. Cable is cheaper takes less time to set up and doesnt require bleeding or the addition of a slave cylinder hydraulic will give lighter pedal effort and you wont have to worry about cable adjustment or potential breakage. The task of the hydraulic clutch is to disengage the engine from the transmission when the driver is changing gears. I get why cable is preferred by some for off road and adv applications.
