Im currently working on replacing a ceiling light fixture on an older house built 1895 and have stumbled across a problem. I have 3 white wires and 3 black wires in a light fixture. Follow standard color codes that identify each wires function in a circuit. Removing the old fixture i discovered 3 black wire 3 white wires and a ground. Only 1 of the black wires seem to be hot lights up the voltage tester when touching the 3 whites and one black together. The common terminal of the second 3 way switch connects to the light fixtures.
These connect to the black and white wires in the electrical box with the provided larger wire nuts.
