The apple homekit code is used by the apple home app to detect your wemo devices as an accessory and add it to the apple home app. The apple homekit code is provided in the quick install guide and can also be found at the back of the wemo device. Make sure to have your wi fi password ready.
The 8 digit code for previously installed items comes from first updating the wemo app. For steps on how to set up the wemo bridge with apple home app click here. Verify if your wemo supports apple homekit by checking if there is a homekit code label at the back or side of the device. The wemo line is known for being some of the best smart home accessories around but unfortunately it was a little late getting to the homekit party. When it finally arrived homekit still required a separate smart bridge which was sold separately and didnt support all of the wemo products. Just in case people still confused.
